about Chris
Chris Arnol is a classically trained portrait and still life painter based in Tasmania, Australia. A graduate of the Angel Academy of Art in Florence, he works within a naturalist tradition that draws upon the timeless aesthetics and techniques of the Old Masters.
Alongside his studio practice, Chris offers portrait and still life commissions, working closely with clients to create thoughtful, enduring works of art. He also provides tuition in classical academic drawing and painting, sharing the traditional methods and observational skills developed through his formal training. Central to his artistic philosophy is the belief that realism is the strongest and most enduring visual language for conveying ideas, narratives, and the depth of human experience. Whether through teaching or commissioned work, Chris is committed to fostering a deeper appreciation of representational art and its enduring place in contemporary culture.
Chris's work is held in private collections throughout Australia and abroad. He is a member of the Portrait Society of America and been recognised in several prestigious competitions. In Australia, he has been a semi-finalist in both the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize and the Lester Prize for Portraiture. Internationally, he has been a semi-finalist in the Almenara Art Prize, a world-wide competition based in Spain. He has also been a multiple finalist in the Art Renewal Center’s International Salon, the largest and most prestigious competition in the world for realist artists.
Several of Chris's works were also included in the Lunar Codex, a unique archive of contemporary cultural artefacts placed on the Moon.
