CommissionsIf you’re considering a portrait, Chris will begin by working with you to design the artwork. This includes discussing composition, size, colour palette, and any symbolic or personal elements you’d like included. Once the creative direction is clear, he’ll outline a timeline and provide you with a quote.
For his more highly developed oil paintings, Chris employs the classic indirect painting method inspired by techniques used by the Old Masters. These works are carefully developed through a series of layers, allowing for a high degree of refinement and detail.
Chris also offers alla prima oil paintings. These are painted more directly, generally without the multiple-layered process, and can often be completed in a shorter timeframe.
Oil paintings typically take 4–12 weeks to complete. Pricing is based on canvas size, methods employed and the number of figures included.
Working from Life or PhotographsChris paints from both life and photographic reference. Depending on your location and the nature of the commission, live sittings can be arranged at in your home or at Chris’ studio. While you can choose to work from photos the best results are often achieved when Chris takes his own reference images. In some cases your personal photographs may also be suitable.

A non-refundable 50% deposit secures your place in Chris’s painting schedule. The balance is due upon completion.
If travel is required (interstate or overseas), an additional fee may apply for travel and accommodation.
Still-Life Commission
If you’re considering a still life commission, Chris will work with you to develop the artwork.
Each still life painting is individually conceived and executed using traditional oil painting techniques. Completion times typically range from 2–3 months, depending on the scale and complexity of the work. Pricing is based primarily on canvas size and the number and intricacy of the objects depicted.
